Margaret has special expertise in the following areas:

Reducing inflammation

Having written a book on the topic, Margaret is very passionate about using diet as well as certain herbs and nutrients to reduce inflammation in the body. An increasingly prevalent problem, inflammation is believed to be a driver in the development of many modern diseases and an anti-inflammatory diet will not only help you to feel your best and lose weight, it will also help in the prevention of disease.

The lymphatic system

Often at the core of illness is an overloaded and poorly draining lymphatic system. Margaret is acutely aware of this and has enormous expertise in improving lymphatic function.

Gut Health, SIBO, Leaky Gut and Dysbiosis

One of Margaret's specialties is gut health and the far reaching effects of poor gut health on the whole body. She has screening techniques and functional testing to determine if the problem is leaky gut, small intestinal bacterial overgrowth (SIBO), dysbiosis or an imbalance of good and bad bacteria in the gut, poor digestion, liver stress and toxicity or whether there are parasites, bacteria or fungus present. Depending on the individual case she will set about healing the gut lining, clearing out the parasites, bacteria or fungus, recolonising the gut microbiome with the correct good bacteria, supporting digestive acid levels and detoxing the liver kidneys and lymph. Food intolerance testing is completed if necessary and any foods that come up are removed for 6-8 weeks while she works on healing and 're-setting' the gut

Autoimmune Disease

After suffering a serious autoimmune disease many years ago, and successfully treating herself so that she was and continues to be free of autoimmune disease, this is an area that Margaret is passionate about and is very successful in its treatment.

Menopause, PMS and other hormonal abnormalities

One of the most common problems a woman consults a Naturopath for. Herbs, vitamins and minerals, diet and lifestyle are highly effective here.

Recurrent infections, chronic fatigue, sinusitis

Probably the most common reason why children and adults consult a Naturopath. Herbs, vitamins and minerals and changes in diet and lifestyle are used to stimulate the immune system. The digestion often needs to be looked at as levels of 'good' bacteria are the cornerstone of a good immune system. Margaret first became interested in studying Naturopathy because of her struggles with allergies, hayfever and sinusitis so she has a lot of experience in this area. She is an advocate for Jala Neti – a highly effective treatment for sinusitis, hayfever, and runny nose.

Heavy Metal Toxicity

Heavy metals are an increasing problem in our society and have become a specialty of Margaret's just purely because of their prevalence. She has in-house screening tests for determining heavy metal and vitamin and mineral levels before commencing treatment.

Adrenal exhaustion and adrenal disfunction

A very common presentation in clinic usually causing fatigue and exhaustion combined with high Cortisol levels. Margaret sees the vatious stages of adrenal exhaustion very often and has a lot of experience in using specific herbs and nutrients to nourish and re-balance the adrenals. Adrenal dysfuntion can also play a part in hormonal imbalance and all its associated symptoms including acne.

Stress disorders

Whether it is panic attacks, anxiety, difficulty sleeping or just feeling down, Margaret will look at which imbalances in the body are the cause and treat them accordingly. Using herbs and nutrients to support gut health due to the effect of the gut on the Vagus nerve and the resultant stress hormone imbalance, treating adrenal dysfunction and its'seffect on high or low Cortisol levels, or simply treating the nervous system itself. As well as herbs and nutrients, some minor lifestyle changes may be needed and the positive effect of having Margaret to support and listen improves patient outcomes when treating stress disorders.

Functional and Genetic testing

Sometimes it is less about symptoms and more about prevention. Looking at an individual's genetic or inherited profile, Margaret does complete genetic DNA tests or individual gene tests for specific genes so that the patient can look at their individual risks and tailor their lifestyle, diet, and supplements to best set them up for avoiding disease and dysfunction.

Natural fertility and pre-conception

Margaret has had many great successes in bringing about natural fertility. She uses herbs to detox and treat underlying problems in the body as well as to treat any hormonal imbalances. Where possible, both members of the couple are treated as part of preconception. Dietary change and the use of vitamins and minerals are often indicated and discussions about signs of ovulation etc. are important. Pre-conception is optimally undertaken three months before conception and typically involves herbs and supplements tailored to the individual and preparing the body through diet and excercise. The use of Naturopathy through both these stages to correct imbalances and improve general health is hugely beneficial.

Pregnant and breastfeeding women

As a mother of two children, Margaret has used her blend of Naturopathy through both pregnancies and knows exactly what is safe to use and what is not. Naturopathy is extremely successful in treating breastfeeding women with symptoms left after the pregnancy and also in treating babies with problems such as excema and colic.

Children

As a rule children are the easiest to treat because their bodies respond so readily to change and Margaret has some practical advice and the use of an easy-to-take kids range which achieves great results. Kids and teenagers feel very comfortable with her.

Weight loss

Having written a book on diet and believing herself diet is everything when it comes to health, her diet plan is simple, moderate and down to earth. Eating a high protein diet to build plenty of metabolism boosting muscle, along with plenty of vegetables, fibre and good fats is key. She advocates staying away from sugar as much as possible and trying to keep the diet as 'clean' and unprocessed as possible. Having said that she's a big believer in the 80:20 rule and having a treat at times,  but 80% of the time it's best to stick to these principles in order to reduce inflammation and lose weight. For weight loss as well as diet and excercise, Margaret will detox the body to boost metabolism and work on gut and bowel health. She loves working on weight loss and achieves outstanding results, providing direction, motivation and support. Patients find that not only have they lost weight but they have also come to enjoy a healthier diet.

Many of the people who consult Margaret are simply suffering from low energy, low motivation and feeling unwell. Margaret has a many tools at her disposal and is able to motivate the patient to make positive change in their lives.
